There are a lot of great people at the Bird Rescue Center that volunteer their time and talent. Many are also good sports who will stand in the rain and introduce themselves. A huge thank you too all of our volunteers and supporters!

In the mountains southeast of Albuquerque is a place where you can toss a hawk into the sky. 21 years ago I spent four months living in the Manzano Mountains working for hawkwatch international. Last fall I spent my birthday weekend on that same mountain, spending the day with the awesome crew working hard banding raptors and fishing the sky during the fall migration. Releasing the birds after they’ve been banded is still one of the most magical experiences I can think of. This little Sharp-shinned Hawk brought me right back to those amazing autumn days back in 1997. .

At first glance, this looks just like a bunch of bones squished together, but it's actually an owl pellet. The compact bones are the remains of a mouse that has been spit up by an owl, as these birds of prey can't digest the tough skeletons of rodents. Pretty cool 💀They're really helpful in research as they give a great insight into the dirt of owls
