The Citigroup Centre is located in Canary Wharf (London, UK) and provides 170.000 sqm in two merged buildings. One is the 33 Canada Square and designed by Foster + Partners next to the Canary Wharf tube station. The building provides several entrances and connections with the station and the surrounding shopping centre, including the displayed escalator hall. The triple escalator is framed in a graphic reduced hall with a clean pattern of exposed concrete panels. •

The Bermondsey Underground Station, between Canada Water and London Bridge, is one part of the Jubilee Line Extension from Green Park to Stratford, constructed in the 1990th. Designed by Ian Ritchie Architects from London it was originally intended to be part of the ground zone of a multi-storey office building, which hasn’t been realized until now. It was built in a cut-and-cover system with concrete beams below the high escalator hall, providing natural daylight in the lower level. Shape and material connection of concrete and steel are giving a futuristic appearance. •

The metro station „Elbbrücken“ was completed in 2018 as the necessary connection between the centre of Hamburg and the developing East End of the HafenCity. Designed by gmp Architekten it became a solitaire landmark with the rails arising from the underground tunnel shortly before, in a future compressed urban district. The dynamic shape of the steel construction of the roof with the profile of a basket arch is a aesthetic answer to the neighbored historic bridge crossing the river Elbe. The external bent steel profiles are the bearing structure for the suspended interior glass façade. •

The five-star superior hotel „The Westin Grand Berlin“ is located in the famous Friedrichstraße in Berlin-Mitte and was opened in 1987. Planned as a representative hotel in the former socialist DDR (German Democratic Republic) it replaced the Kaisergalerie (Kaiserpassage), which was destroyed during WW2, in a similar classicist style. The entrance and the 30 m high atrium, called „Oktagon“ (octagon), follow the design of the historic Kaisergalerie. •

The building of the Bauhaus-Archiv in Berlin was designed in 1964 by Walter Gropius as one of the co-founder of the Bauhaus movement of modern architecture. Initially planned for a site in Darmstadt the building arrangement was built in a modified version in Berlin by the architects Alex Cvijanovic and Hans Bandel between 1976-1979. The under historic preservation listed building contains the biggest collection of items and thoughts of the movement. Increasing visitor numbers and limited space caused the decision for a renovation and a building extension by Volker Staab. The archive is currently closed. •

The Marriott hotel next to the Potsdamer Platz was designed by the German architect Prof. Bernd Albers and was opened in January 2004. The strong façade rhythm and limestone material of the exterior find it‘s repetition in a fantastic interior atrium, which rises up to the 35 m high roof. One of the four interior façades is a LED wall or light sculpture (black in the displayed image) which plays with copper light effects with this space of this atrium. •
