Its been a wild week. Thank you to everyone that has offered condolences, reached out through messenger and taken the time to lend an ear! Somehow wading through hundreds of photos of my friend, building a slideshow for his celebration of life tomorrow, I’ve gained some closure, but only some. I’m still so sad, and mad😣. I know he wouldn’t want me so focused on sadness and grief so I thought I’d take a minute to share some of my night photography. It’s been almost 7 months too long since I’ve seen the core of the milky way, but I have been nominated as one of the best male Milky Way photographers of 2018 among friends and incredible talent! @knightysphotography @rossthompson.photo @wayne_pinkston @thetaintedtripod @smpetersonphotography @adphotography2410 @nicholasroemmelt @hoovisyo @alynwallace Please view the work of these guys, cast a vote for your favorite! Tyler, there are so many things I want to say to you, looking through hundreds of your photos today trying to pay tribute to your amazing life has made me cry so many tears. The look of love and happiness in your eyes every time I saw you, and in every single one of these photos proves how much you loved. I see it in your sons eyes, I see it in the people you surrounded yourself with. I am trying to fill my eyes with it now. You saw something in me, something worth being in your life. I will never take that for granted my friend. This sunsets for you buddy, I can't help but think if I had convinced you to break away this night, if you followed the gps coordinates I sent so you wouldn't get lost, if I had told you I was stuck out there. You would've come for me. Maybe, it would've changed everything..... I will never forget you man, I will never let anyone forget you.

Last week when I made this image its title immediately came to mind, why? I do not know, it was like a whisper over my shoulder. Something urging me to think more deeply about my life, my actions, my friends, and family. Relationships have always been incredibly important to me, as an introverted empath I seek security and solace in friendships, and I think not one friend can handle all we have to share. Relationships have also been extremely rare, and difficult for me, so the contradiction leads me to cherish those I love with everything I have. I wrote an Article yesterday about insecurity, and sadness, and mentioned how certain people come into our lives at times for which we do not understand immediately.... People that teach us lessons, show us love, hate, anger, and embrace. I guess sometimes those people have to leave us to teach us those lessons. My heart aches today for the family and friends of my friend Tyler. He came into my life when I was feeling most insecure about my life choices, I had just quit my job, and he was the first local person to ever reach out to me about wanting to learn from me, and be my friend. He loved my passion. He was also a teacher, and mentor to me, about life, business, and friendship. He didn't even know how much his friendship meant to me, I never got to say goodbye. As I write this I am crying, flashes of his smile, and the feeling of his excitement whenever he did anything fill my head. I will miss you my friend, and the memories we could have shared.

Mt.Whitney moody mornings make for magical moments! Tongue tied yet?😜 this past weekends whirlwind trip to the Alabama Hills with @luckyshutter @arpandas_photography_adventure @california_matt And @dasilvahelder Was so much fun! It is amazing to me the weather that develops around the eastern front of the sierras. Watching the clouds whip around the peaks, rising and falling into and out of valleys was amazing!! I hope you’ll join me here in April as part of a 4 day workshop beginning in Death Valley, and ending in the Alabama hills! My first spur of the moment trip of 2019 took me to the Alabama Hills of California, a mere 1700 miles round trip from home, so it only seemed logical to leave on a Friday afternoon to be back Sunday night, right?😂 we were only home from the 8 day, 5,000 mile trip back east to see family for the holidays when my buddies @j_r_moran_photography @arpandas_photography_adventure @dasilvahelder and @california_matt said they’d all be out here, I had to consider it. So naturally we immediately began driving out there🏎 if only I had a personal choppa!! After arriving around 11pm, and 12 hours of driving @loxiebug myself and the @pupsonahike all snuggled up in the Prius excited about sunrise, that ended up fizzling out, and the rest of the day and into the night you couldn’t even see the mountains, Matt went home because he thought we’d stay socked in, but I had hope! After a nap, and some pizza we all went out scouting for comps anyway butbthe winds had picked up with gusts of 40mph, which made hiking around interesting. I had a very specific composition in mind and spent hours hiking around searching but a few minutes into scouting I had found an arrowhead! So I knew luck was on my side. After finally finding this composition and marking it on gps Jesse and I had packed it in because what we hoped would turn into a gap in the clouds ended up closing back up. We were a few hundred yards from the cars when some of the weirdest clouds I’ve seen had formed all around us with weird pink highlights like veins through the sky.

Sunday morning came, and the waiting paid off.
I cannot wait to be back here with my group in April! (Details on the workshop on my website! Link in bio!) Enjoy!!!

One of the coolest places I have ever had the privilege to visit, and easily one of the most unique geological areas in the country, the foothills of Mt.Whitney is filled with endless opportunities to create, and explore. Dozens of granite arches dot this amazing little slice of heaven, all backdropped my mammoth, dominating peaks, that generate their own weather! Lenticular clouds are common here and man are they amazing! I’ll be back here in April with 7 students! The Death Valley and Alabama Hills Workshop has a few spots left, and you won’t want to miss this! All of the details are on my website (link in bio) Join me in capturing the incredibly diverse California deserts by day, and by night!! The night after capturing this image we captured the Milky Way with 40mph wind gusts that made for an interesting and wild night. One of the coolest things about getting to explore, and teach is getting to meet and know so many incredible people! 3 new friends were made that night! =================================================

Back in September, the evening after my aspen workshop, two of my students and I ventured back to this beautiful overlook. We didn't have great conditions during the workshop, so it was a reprieve for DJ and Kevin, and I. I was hoping for a great colorful sunset, because Capital peak glows intently with a deep red color. Unfortunately the glow never came this evening, but the light from an hour before sunset was gorgeous!
Happy new years everyone! I hope 2019 is an amazing year for all of you!! =================================================

Happy holidays!!! We’re heading back to Utah after driving all the way back to upstate NY, and Pennsylvania to surprise our families for Christmas! We drove the 2,200 miles in three days, with hardly any stops, and now we are strolling home, maybe even with a few detours 📸 I’m excited to get back to Utah to finish up some projects, map out a couple more workshops and get out shooting! I’ve pretty much been off grid for the last week to recharge and just be with family, and I’m getting the itch to shoot and process some new images! =================================================

It’s been a wild, wild year! So many awesome little adventures, lots and lots of life lessons, and growth! I feel as though I found myself this year, and am so thankful for the people that have come into my life and have changed me forever! It was also vital to shed some toxic acquaintances that weren’t healthy, and that blurred my emotions, and distracted me from my self growth.
I wanted to share my 9 favorite images of 2018!!! (And boy are they different than what the instagram masses chose! )I’ve described in great detail why each photo is so meaningful in the captions(FACEBOOK) so if you have a few minutes!! Next year is shaping up to be pretty awesome too, starting with trips to Iceland in January and February, and Patagonia in April, workshops at the Oregon Coast and redwoods, Glacier, Death Valley, Acadia, and some spur trips to explore Olympic, and Yosemite!
I’ve been really considering hiring an employee or intern to help with the backend stuff and to take over the photo tour side of the business I usually turn away so I can focus more on workshops, and personal projects. They consumed a lot of my time this year and and nearly fried me to a level I wasn’t sure I’d come back from.

The deepest thank you’s to the companies that have chosen to work with me for my work, my drive and my passion, and not my meager social media following! I will always work to be the best I can be for myself, and you!

I've really been enjoying all of the Digital Darkroom sessions I have been doing lately with old and new students. Here is a before and after of one of my new images from earlier this year, on a balmy 115º day in April. I wanted to fry an egg on these cracks, but they were just too pretty and I didn’t have any bacon🤤
I had just arrived after 2.5 days too long in Vegas presenting at NAB, and the searing heat was actually a relief from the ocean of people crammed into the event center. It just smelled like feet in there😂🦶🏼maybe it was just mine nervous sweating in my chaco’s. I wish I had known that the group @j_r_moran_photography and I were to be leading on that workshop would turn out to be so talented, and become close friends, the stress of Vegas would’ve been a little easier to handle!
I will be returning to the scene of the crime again this April with a group of 8, and there is still a few spots left! Did I mention that your lodging is included in the tuition? All you need to do is get your butt there! links on my website at www.jsnowphotography.com

•Slide Away• I've really been enjoying all of the Digital Darkroom sessions I have been doing lately with old and new students. Here is a before and after of one of my new images from earlier this year, on a balmy 115º day in April. I wanted to fry an egg on these cracks, but they were just too pretty and I didn’t have any bacon🤤 I had just arrived after 2.5 days too long in Vegas presenting at NAB, and the searing heat was actually a relief from the ocean of people crammed into the event center. It just smelled like feet in there😂🦶🏼maybe it was just mine nervous sweating in my chaco’s. I wish I had known that the group @j r moran photography and I were to be leading on that workshop would turn out to be so talented, and become close friends, the stress of Vegas would’ve been a little easier to handle! I will be returning to the scene of the crime again this April with a group of 8, and there is still a few spots left! Did I mention that your lodging is

Autumn in the San Juan mountains this year was incredible, my only wish was that it snowed earlier and I took more photos. I spent nearly three weeks in and around Colorado in September and October, and it would’ve been much longer if not for the “Out of Moab” Conference. Of course the day I needed to be back in moab, it began to snow its first flakes in the San Juan’s. The minute the conference ended, and my anxiety in full effect, I headed back to get the last few leaves with some snow! I spent three more days returning to The same composition each night for the right light, of course that never came, until I was in the car and halfway back to town....the nearest thing I could get to was this little pond, of you can call it that, it’s more like a puddle, that draws a lot of attention from other photographers yet in three years I had not shot this composition. It was practically dark at this point, Lacey, kiva, and Luna in the car, Luna surely stinking it up with her little farts, and I was still traipsing around in the muck in this tall grass trying to perform a surgical focus stack in the pitch dark, in sinking mud😂😂. I finally ended up with this, 🤷🏻‍♂️ it’s something..anyway...TOMORROW IS THE LAST NIGHT to enter your photos in the @pursuepictures #falladventures photo contest!!! The deadline is 12/6 11:59pm !!! Get your awesome, epic, gnarly fall photos in for a chance at $3,000 in prizes and a change to be in a gallery!! Plus free stuff from @peakdesign follow the link in my story to enter!!!

Mesa arch is probably the most frequently photographed location on earth, next to Mt Rushmore or the Grand Canyon but! Every once in a while I get lucky and find I have it to myself. Last time with epic fog, this time, I got locked in the park, the rangers had closed the road from the heavy snow and I was still inside, a blessing! Although it was a cold, ice night I’m always prepared and slept great! I woke up to fresh, glistening snow and this view all to myself! It was a bit windy, and a lot of the heavy snow was blowing away from the edge, I tried to capture that movement but failed. I hope you guys enjoy this one, for some reason I’m just attached to this place. =================================================

Light burns in the dark, shadowy canyon as icy water flows beneath, catching and reflecting golden light, kisses of blue and teal. Shimmering cottonwoods dot the banks of this geological marvel and the tranquility of kneeling in the water of this place is pure magic. Little drops of water splashing on cold cheeks. I enjoyed this beautiful scene with my buddy @whereisweatherby A few weeks ago on a banzai mission to @zionnps

Arms raised, reaching for the sky, half alive and broken. Brittle bones and tattered dreams, a picture tells of words unspoken. Bright lights and dark caves, my mind and soul are lost, lost sometimes, sometimes... I get asked why I don’t write more, and to be honest, sometimes I just can’t make sense of my words or feelings. I’ve been in such a rut but lately I’ve been feeling better after realizing that part of the reason I’ve been so down could be laziness. I’ve been lazy, I’ve been gaining weight, and in turn my creativity has suffered, I’ve been lazy in my process, and processing. That all ended today, in hopes of being proactive and breaking free of what has been like heavy chains on my soul. Sometimes I just want to feel normal, like “tomorrow I’ll be better”. A few months ago while out with a client we were treated to one of the most amazing, and strange displays of light, and clouds I’ve ever seen, with temps over 100°, and random lightning (no thunder) striking often and randomly. I was lucky to capture a frame with lightning while the sun was peaking through.
