You might have already got your copy of the latest @housesmagazine as I’m a bit late this time (sorry, was on holidays! 😜)
.
It’s a goodie 🤗 (and I enjoyed writing about @freadmanwhite & @anonstudio’s Whitlam Place)
.
In this issue we welcome our new associate editor @gemmasavio_ . Gemma is a graduate of architecture from the University of Newcastle
and has been a director of her own architecture practice for the past five years. Stephanie McGann (@walklikemcgann) who has worked across some of our sister publications for almost two years, joins the Houses team as our assistant content editor. I know they will both make a valuable contribution to the magazine.

02.02.19 is very special for two reasons - it’s the day my mum, Rosemary would have celebrated her 65th birthday and it’s also the day we welcomed @___matty.d___ to our family. And what a day it was! 💕 @emilysarahgrace .

This photo was taken a year ago ... and I can’t believe how much has changed since then! 2018 has been a BIG one - a year of growth with some incredible highs and some devastating lows. I started the year grieving the passing of my beautiful mother, who had struggled with a rare neurological disease for nine years. This was closely followed by a relationship breakdown; living alone for the first time; preparing for my sister’s (the one in this pic with me) wedding early in 2019; two amazing European adventures; a flooded apartment; judging the National Architecture Awards, World Architecture Festival awards, Houses Awards and Dulux Colour Awards; farewells to two long-time Architecture Media colleagues and mentors (almost thirteen years of working together); a promotion to editorial director (probably my biggest career leap to date); and to end it, buying my first property (which is right below an apartment that my bestie purchased in the same week). I’m so lucky to have such an incredible network of family, friends and colleagues that has been there for me this year. So thank you!!! And here’s to 2019! 💕

Highgate Primary School New Teaching Building in Perth by @iredalepedersenhook won a commendation for Educational Architecture at the 2018 National Architecture Awards. This building provides for a variety of experiences, opening views to the surrounding streets and the distant city while allowing an intimacy in literally tracking and mapping direct sunlight, the winter solstice and the beginning and end of the school year. .

Winner of a National Award for Residential Architecture - Houses (New) is Cabbage Tree House by @peterstutchburyarchitecture. This was also the winner of Australian House of the Year at the 2018 Houses Awards. This home encourages its occupants to poetically engage with its undeniably spectacular bushland setting via a series of indoor and outdoor terraces, where the sound of the birds, the smell of the creek and the glistening of the sun’s rays are ever-present.
